And then one day, it was over.

The memory of how it happened was hazy. Perhaps it was as simple as being ported out, perhaps there was a great experiment, bringing together physicists, chemists, alchemists and scientists to get something WORKING. But like the memories of that time, that other dimension, singular events come and go, like a dream, or an age past.

From the very start, however, there were changes.

[ Once he's gotten himself situation, she starts to climb the books herself so she can sit beside him. ]

We could borrow a napkin and turn it into one small enough to carry.

Or I could make a tiny one ahead of time and then pick it up after we're small. I like doing that.

[ One upside of having this power is that Miles can spend hours building and playing with miniature things. One of his few hobbies that aren't wildly dangerous. ]

That's what I meant. [ And this could be one hell of a project to keep him busy. ] Think we could make a bunch of flags and hide them throughout the house? It'd take them a while to find them all.

Oh! Yeah! People would find them later and wonder if we had fairies around or something. 'specially Ivan.

[ Miles is downright gleeful at the thought. ]

[ She snickers lightly at that. ]

Then it's settled. We're making flags later. We can map out our plan of attack and execute it tomorrow.

[dendarii]

[ Miles likes that part too. ]

Ivan's gonna be so confused. Poor Ivan.

Something tells me you don't feel that bad for him or you'd let him in on the secret.

[dendarii]

Well. He's Ivan.

[ He swings his legs thoughtfully. ]

An' Da and Mother and everyone was real strict. Can't tell anyone I can do magic or they'll kill us.

Yes, I know your cousin's name. [ And a little of what that kid grows up to be.

Miles' blunt reminder has he rethinking the whole plan, but it's the kind of thing a full-sized Miles would do anyway. ]

It'll be our secret then.

[dendarii]

[ The trick with Miles is to let him make small, stupid mistakes so he doesn't get pent up and make larger ones. ]

Just the two of us. I like that.

You promise not to tell even the Sargeant? Just the two of us, like you said.

[ Mostly so she can see the initial look on Bothari's face when he finds the first flag. ]

[dendarii]

[ Miles considers that, a similar mental image flickering across the link. ]

I promise.

[ She smiles at that thought and nudges his shoulder lightly with hers. ]

Good. I'll be holding you to it.
